Make sure your housewarming party is more than just a parade full of endless house tours with these fun housewarming party games. They’ll show off your new home and get your guests laughing all at the same time.

Since you’ve recently moved, all these games are easy to set up and use items that you probably already have. This will make the party fun for you too, with easy setup and no stress fun.

If you’re looking for something a bit more general, these party games for adults would be great incorporated into your housewarming party.

If you’d like to give away small prizes for the winner of these games, a great idea that everyone will love is gift cards. To keep the home theme going, give out gift cards from Home Depot, Lowe’s, Michaels, or Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Other ideas include kitchen accessories, plants, candy, and keychains. Anything house related will be a hit.

1. Keep Your Key

Keep your key is a game all about what you shouldn’t say. You’ll want to choose some forbidden words that you’re guests can get caught saying at a housewarming party. Some examples of forbidden words that you can choose include house, home, mailbox, paint, kitchen, TV, etc. Print off some key stickers or labels and fill them in with a different forbidden word for each guest. When guests arrive at the party, stick a key sticker on them (let them read it) and let the fun begin.

When a guest hears another guest say the word you’ve chosen, then they can steal their key sticker for themselves. The person with the most keys at the end of the party is the winner.

2. New House Scavenger Hunt

A great way to get your guests to pay attention to those special new home details is a scavenger hunt. You can ask guests to find answers to questions about your new home, neighborhood, decor, and more.

You could create your own scavenger hunt, or print off this How Well Do You Know Us? free printable that’s all ready to go.

3. Room Memory

Here’s a housewarming game that will test your guests’ memories while they work in small teams. Pick a room in your home and let a small group of guests at a time go in for 2-minutes. When they exit, ask them to write down items that they remember seeing in the room. The winner is the team with the most correct answers.

4. Pick a Card, Any Card

Have a pile of moving announcement cards ready for guests to pick up so they have your new address. Make it a game by writing a number in the bottom corner that corresponds to those written on slips of paper. After everyone has their cards, draw a number. The person with the same number on their moving card is the winner!

5. Famous House Match

Print out pictures of houses made famous by a TV show or movie. See how many guests can guess which house belongs to which show. You can also have guests use their phones to take this house matching quiz and see how many they can get right.

6. House Style Crossword

How much do your guests know about the styles of houses? Find out in this low-key housewarming party game where they’ll identify 19 types of houses in a printable crossword puzzle.

7. Unscramble Our House

Have guests write down on a sheet of paper how many words they can spell with the letters used in the word h-o-u-s-e. Hint: There are 27 of them!

Don’t stop there! You could also have guests unscramble your last name or new street name. You could also choose different words like home, family, neighborhood, etc.

8. Oven Mitt Unwrap

Have your guests sit in a circle. Hand one player a pair of dice and the player to the right of them a wrapped gift and an oven mitt. The person with the dice starts rolling while the other person puts on the oven mitt and begins to try to unwrap the gift. Once the player with the dice gets a double, the dice goes to the person on the left and now it’s there turn to try to unwrap the gift.

Keep going around in the same way until someone gets the gift unwrapped and open. The player who does so gets to keep the gift.

9. Neighborhood Scavenger Hunt

Show off your new neighborhood with a scavenger hunt that will encourage guests to get out and see what they can find. You can make your own list or use a printable scavenger hunt list to get started right away. If you want to keep guests inside you can create a photo scavenger hunt and have your guests take photos on their phone of certain items in your house.

If there are children at your housewarming party, you can have an outside scavenger hunt so they can go out and explore your yard and new neighborhood.

5 Tips to Ensure Your Home’s Showing Is a Success

The purpose of showing your home is to hook a buyer. You want the buyers to come through your house and be impressed – so impressed in fact, that they’re ready to make an offer! You’ll have one chance to make a great first impression on the potential buyers, so make sure to follow these five helpful tips to really make it count!

1. Focus on the outside. Make sure that you don’t neglect the outside of your home. Curb appeal can make or break the odds of someone even bothering to get out of the car to come in. If they pull up and see a home with a lawn that obviously needs edging and has an unkempt flower bed, they’re going to wonder what else hasn’t been cared for properly. You want the outside of your home to be spotless. Clean the siding, the windows, and the doors. Make sure there are no dirt smudges, no cobwebs and that anything that needs painting has been spiffed up.

2. Take yourself out of the house. That means that you want to take out all the personal stuff. Remove the family photos from the wall or tables. You want the home to look neutral so that the potential buyers can look at your house and picture it as themselves living there. Everything should be as neutral as possible in terms of personal items.

3. Remove all the extra clutter you see at first glance. If you look around, it’ll amaze you at how much stuff you’ve accumulated over the years. Some of it might very well be important, but that doesn’t mean that your potential buyers should see it. When you have a lot of clutter, it shrinks the living space of the house. It makes it look and feel cramped and smaller. Many homeowners get something called house blindness. They’ve lived in the home for so long with the same clutter that they don’t even really see it anymore. But a stranger will always notice. So clean out your house and make the space as big as possible.

4. If you have a pet, no one that walks through your house should be able to notice it exists. That means no cat litter box, no dog to jump on anyone, no food sitting around in a dish. Your home should not have any pet odors. Having a clean house that’s odor free is a big selling point. You don’t want to lose a possible deal just because they can smell your pet’s presence or your pet makes a bad impression.

5. Stage your home! You can hire a professional or you can do it yourself. Stage your living areas in a way that shows off your home. You can rent furniture to make your home furnishings look good if you don’t use a stager. Someone who knows how to stage a house knows how to play up the best features of your home and knows what to bring in or get rid of to make the entire house appeal to a buyer.

First impressions are HUGE when showing you home to potential buyers, but by following the simple tips above you will be well on your way to making a great impression and, hopefully, receiving multiple offers!  (And if you are at all anxious about this important step, just reach out to a trusted real estate team, www.TwoMoveYou.com, who can help guide you through this process!)

12 Spaces You Can Organize in 15 Minutes or Less

It’s a safe bet almost everyone wishes they were a little more organized or that their home or office space were just a little cleaner. If only I had the time, we think. Well if you have 15 minutes, you can get more done than you might think. Professional organizers share their tips on how to use small chunks of time to make a big dent in your cleaning goals. Here are 12 spaces you can sort out in around 15 minutes.

1. Under the Sink

Shira Gill literally wrote the book on breaking big organization jobs into smaller tasks. Her book, Minimalista, offers a ton of great tips. She is known for her “15-minute wins,”  which is exactly what it sounds like. Take charge of your clutter, a quarter-hour at a time. One of her ideas for a fast refresh is tackling what lurks under the sink in your kitchen or bath.

“Get rid of anything that is gross and nasty or things that are duplicates and you know you won’t ever use,” Gill says. “You can donate to a local nonprofit. If there are things that are toxic and you know you won’t use them, you can put them in a “to be disposed of” box and when it’s full, drive it to a hazardous waste site. But you are at least getting it out of your prime real estate.”

2. Ditch the Junk

Everybody has a junk drawer (or two), even if they don’t call it by that name. A place where you stash things you either don’t know what to do with or things you are sure you will need someday. Just looking at it can make you anxious.

Holly Blakey, founder of Breathing Room Organization, has a plan for taking the “junk” out of the drawer in no time. ”Take out receipts, sort the paper clips, just take out everything that isn’t being used or is trash and then sort the rest, like with like, everything has a home,” she says. “Find little jewelry boxes around the house for the time being and sort them if you don’t want to spend money on [organization containers] right now.”

3. Unpack Your Bag

Wallets and purses tend to fill up quickly. “Purses tend to be full of things that need to go back to the office or medicine cabinet or random things kids handed you,” Gill says. “Things that need to be filed in a combination of trash or recycling and put things back where they go.

This is a perfect task to undertake while you are waiting at the gas pump or even watching a little TV. Gill calls these tasks that take very little time and chip away at a larger organizational goal “15-minute wins,” and who doesn’t need a win here and there?

4. Clean the Counter

Joanna Wirick, a professional organizer based in the Midwest, sets her sights on the kitchen countertops for a quick fix. “The kitchen  is the heart of the home,” she says. “It’s a space that everyone in the family uses multiple times a day, and clutter can easily pile up.”

Wirick suggests that you pick 1-3 things to permanently remove from the counter. Then wipe everything down, load the dishwasher, and voila! “Even if the drawers and cabinets aren’t top notch, everything that’s out for the world to see is top notch,” she says.

5. Nightstand Spruce

Your bedside table is another spot that seems to attract the detritus of your day. Giving it a quick clean can do wonders for your state of mind, says Gill.  “Even if you do the top surface only. I look and say, ‘What do I actually want to stare at when I wake up in the morning?’ I have seen so many nightstands filled with trash and kid stuff.” Gill suggests that once you have removed the trash and other things that don’t belong next to you when you slumber, you should add one pretty thing on the table to greet you when you awaken.

6. Pick Your Problem

Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is get an irritant out of the way. Louisa Roberts of Neat Method’s New York City location, says the best area to give a quick clean depends on where you are at the time. “If I have a 15-minute opportunity to organize, I ask myself, ‘what’s bothering me the most right now or what could I declutter that would simplify my life?’” she says. “My biggest pain point right now is a few of my closet shelves. I’d take the brief time to refold my sweaters and jeans so they’re neatly arranged in uniform piles and color coded.”

7. Piecemeal Pantry

The kitchen pantry is a hotspot for organizers and those of us who aspire to be organized. It can be a big job, though. “The pantry is really overwhelming for people, but set a timer and see what you can do,” Gill says. ”Maybe relocate things that don’t belong, then use another 15 minutes later to get rid of expireds.” Gill says you could also use 15 minutes to organize just a section of your pantry, by setting up a baking station, a kid snack station, or something similar that fits your life and interests.

8. Best Foot Forward

Sort through your sock or underwear drawer. “Doing an edit and reorganization is so easy,” Gill says. “Get rid of anything that you wouldn’t put on your feet, like socks with holes or that are mismatched or a style you know you won’t wear.” She suggests taking any outcasts and donating them to a homeless shelter or, if they are beyond use, donating them to a textile recycling center. ”Pop in drawer organizers, and your drawer is good as new,” she says. “Organize by style and type or color.” Same process applies to your underwear drawer.

9. Laundry List

Any room that is out of general public view can be a magnet for things that really should go elsewhere. The laundry room is a prime example. “All you really need in the laundry room is detergent, a stain stick and maybe a dryer ball,” Gill says. “People tend to have so many things clogging up that space.”

Gill also recommends that you reconsider what you use to clean your clothes, and anything else for that matter. You can buy multipurpose products that will take the place of all the cleaners and detergent you currently have cluttering up your space.

10. Good Medicine

You might be sensing a theme here, but a medicine cabinet is the perfect place for unused things to hide. The last thing you want when you aren’t feeling well is to hunt for the pain reliever or cough medicine, combing through bottles and jars of medicine you haven’t taken in years. Gill says just a few minutes is all you need to toss expired medications. If you have time, you could organize the medication that remains by the person who uses them.

11. Gem of an Idea

Looking for the other earring or untangling necklaces when you are trying to get out the door is no fun. Save yourself time—and headaches—later by taking 15 minutes now to sort what you have and set aside things that are broken or no longer suit your style.

“Most nonprofits will take jewelry, especially the fun costume stuff,” Gill says. “If you have things that are worth a lot, you can consign them at a local store or the Real Real online.” You could also donate pieces you no longer want to a community center or theater or to schools that do dress-up activities.

12. Beauty Edit

Cosmetics expire about six months or so after they are opened, notes Gill. Perfume also goes bad after six months to a year. “Once you have cleaned up and are starting fresh, invest in fewer, better products,” she says. “Use them all the way up before you treat yourself to a new one.”
